Anatomical Society Summer Meeting 2027
13th-15th July, Cardiff University, 2027
Details about this meeting will be available January 2027
Proudly hosted by the Anatomical Society and located at Cardiff University, Wales.
Theme-Head meets Heart: Exploring Cognitive Learning and the Medical Humanities in Anatomy Teaching
This meeting will bring together anatomists, neuroscientists, and educators to examine the neural networks that underpin cognition. Attention will be given to brain pathways that support learning and the processes used, with the aim of transforming both anatomical knowledge and teaching practice. We will explore how cognitive networks work to support both normal function and new learning. Participants will gain insights into current research and consider how these findings can inform how we exploit our understanding of cognition to improve learning.
We will also explore the role and importance of the humanities in anatomy education, exploring how innovative approaches that bring empathy into anatomy, encourage reflective practice, and foster deeper, more meaningful connections between scientific knowledge and human experience.
By integrating neuroscience, pedagogy, and the arts, we aim unite the “head” of scientific enquiry with the “heart” of how compassion, creativity, and critical thinking enrich the learning of the human body. This champions interdisciplinary exchange and encourage participants to advance anatomical science through new insights in research and novel teaching practices emphasising that understanding the body is inseparable from understanding the person.
