Summer meeting of the Anatomical Society at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin, 4-5th July, 2013



The summer meeting of the Anatomical Society will be held at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin, from the 4-5th July 2013. The major scientific theme will be "Form and Function in Regenerative Medicine" organised by Dr Garry Duffy and Dr Fergal O'Brien. There will also be a workshop on the "Dark Art of Learning Outcomes" organised by Dr Jane Holland.

As always, there will also be general and poster sessions, and there will be a prize for the best poster given by a Young Investigator (not more than 1 year post-doctoral).

Teaching Development Grants Scheme - Published 15 May 2013
The Higher Education Authority Individual Grant Scheme is inviting proposals individual staff members to lead projects that enhance the student experience. Up to £7000 is available for each project which can run for 12 months. The Higher Education Academy is keen to encourage evidence-based research which can lead to innovations in learning and teaching that have clear benefits beyond your own institution. This call closes midday on Friday 14 june 2013 with decision notifications scheduled to go out end of September 2013. 

Barclay-Smith Travelling Award - Published 15 May 2013
Congratulations to Paula Vickerton on being awarded a Barclay-Smith Travelling Grant. The award will go to support attendance and participation at the Summer meeting of the Society in Dublin from 4-5 July 2013. 

Symington Bequest Award - Published 15 May 2013
Congratulations to Dr. Fabio Quondomatteo on being awarded a Symington Bequest Award. The award will go to support attendance and participation at the Gordon Research Conference on Collagen, in New Hampshire, USA, from 14th to 19th July 2013. 

Undergraduate Summer Vacation Research Scholarships 2013 - Published 15 May 2013
Congratulations to Drs. Susanne Dietrich, Kieran McDermott and Fabio Quondomatteo and Professors Peter Dockery and Anthony Graham whose labs have been selected to host Daniel Clent, Rhea Tummon, Sinead Coen, Kathyrn Porter and Peter Hardy for research work during the summer of 2013. We look forward to seeing the outcomes of their work 

Journal of Anatomy: The diaphragmatic shoulder - Published 15 May 2013
Ever wondered how the diaphragm and the skin of the shoulder got to share common nerve origins? Tatsuya Hirasawa and Shigeru Kuratani at the RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology in Kobe, Japan have examined the evolutionary origins of limb and diaphragm and suggest a shared cell population during embryonic development.
